Free Congregational Society of Florence

Free Congregational Society of Florence was founded in 1863. It was on Main Street in Florence in 1875 at Cosmian Hall. It was Unitarian and joined with the Northampton Unitarian Church at some point. Cosmian Hall was near the Lilly Library. Frederick Douglas delivered a speech there. LINK

In 1918 it is at 35 North Main Street and the minster lives at 41 North Main Street. Florence Free Congregational Church is still there but at some point it changed hands to the Florence Seventh Day Adventist Church. Cosmian Hall became the social hall. In the 1950s Cosmian Hall was razed. At 41 N Main is the Florence Sewing Machine Company Worker Housing which became the minister’s home.
