Holyoke Home for Aged People was made in 1911 from a design by James Clough. Clough was an architect in Holyoke for decades. In 1969 the home’s name was changed to Loomis House. William Loomis donated land and money for the house. Many other people donated money to support individual rooms. For many years this was a house for women only but men were allowed in at some point. In 1981 the old age home was sold and the Loomis House moved to a location on Jarvis Avenue. At that point another group purchased the house and turned it into another old age home called Sarawood Retirement Home. The official address is 1 Loomis Avenue in Holyoke. The entire street was donated by Loomis and thus is named after him. Sarawood LINK
