History
1823 dam and canal started
1825 first mill
1826 second and third mills
1828 Chicopee Manufactory Company
1916 Johnson & Johnson purchases the Chicopee Manufactory Company to help make bandages for World War Two
1927 Johnson & Johnson builds the Chicopee Mill in Gainesville Georgia and calls the new mill and village the Chicopee – EXTERNAL LINK to the wonderful story
The Chicopee Manufactory firm is still alive as a subsidiary of Berry Global a maker of plastics products.

As a side trip you might want to visit what is left of the old Chicopee Falls Canal. (LOCATION) Nothing is left of the waterway itself but some of the latter additions to the mill complexes are still there.
