Underwood Farm is a group of homes in the Mount Tom Station area of Easthampton that were owned by the family – numbers 15 and 25 East Street are two of the homes. There was also a Victorian home moved here from Smiths Ferry and a house across the street. The 25 East Street home is from 1850 and was a Parsons family home and then a Lyman.
Richard Franklin Underwood was born in Belchertown in 1842. He fought in the Civil War from 1861 to 1865. Soon after his return, he bought land at Mount Tom Station and started a farm and a family. One of his sons was named William Underwood and this William had three children that fought in World War 2.
Richard Underwood had a diary during the war and wrote a narrative after the war. Visit the links to read them and also visit the web page to see his photograph. Find a list of the Underwood gravestones at the Smith Ferry Cemetery.
The Mount Tom Schoolhouse was at 97-99 East Street.
Also there was the Mount Tom Schoolhouse and the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church at 46 East Street.
