Bridge Street Cemetery

There was a burial ground at the Meeting House in the center of the town from 1658 to 1663. There were about 10 burials there. In 1680 these were moved to the Bridge Street Cemetery. The Bridge Street Cemetery was formed in 1662 at the present location. The cemetery is part of the Pomeroy Terrace Historic District. Historic Northampton has a wonderful story and resources. EXTERNAL LINK The city has a master plan for the cemetery with veterans registrations also – EXTERNAL. Likewise, there is a MACRIS form. Historic Northampton has a VIRTUAL TOUR – EXTERNAL.

Sacred Heart Old Cemetery
Sacred Heart Old Cemetery is a French Canadian ethnic group cemetery in New Bedford. A cemetery section map is HERE. It is also called the Sacred Heart Cemetery number 1. The Levasseur family mausoleum is obvious. It was most likley built in 1910.
Typical of burials in this cemetery is my great grandfather Joseph Treflé Comeau born in Warwick of Quebec, Canada but baptized in St-Christophe-d’Arthabaska.

The campus is at 1359 Acushnet Avenue.
The founder and first pastor of the Saint Anthony of Padua Church is buried alongside the church. CHURCHYARD The Saint Anthony of Padua Parish started in 1895. They built a wooden church in 1896. This was on the side street of Bullard Street. The school was in this wooden building. The basement of the masonry church was ready in 1908. The full church was ready in 1912. It is made in a heavy Romanesque style. Longmeadow brownstone is used.
