Whately was settled in 1672 and became at town in 1771. In that year it broke off from Hatfield.

Whately Center Cemetery FINDAGRAVE – 215 Chestnut Plain Road near town hall – founded in 1762 – had a hearse house on the land – behind is the Oliver Morton Farm
